About

My Korean Name shows how your name is written in Korean. It supports names in English, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, Thai and Arabic, and also has a Korean age calculator.

The conversion follows the Loanword Orthography of the National Institute of Korean Language. Where there is no official rule (Arabic), we say so and mark the result as an estimate. The details are on the How it works page.

Limits

A name is personal, and Koreans themselves do not always follow the official spelling. If an office, school or company in Korea already uses a spelling for your name, use theirs.

Who runs this site

A software developer in Seoul builds and runs this site in their spare time. It is not a commercial company, and ads pay for running costs. Found a mistake? Please tell us on the contact page.

How the site is made

The code, the data-processing scripts and much of the text on this site were written with the help of an AI assistant (Anthropic’s Claude). The operator decides what is published, checks results against the sources below, and runs automated tests on every update — for example, that official spellings match the NIKL usage list and that every suggested Korean name appears in the birth statistics. Pages in languages other than English and Korean were drafted with AI help; the operator reviews them but is not a native speaker of every language, so reports of awkward wording are welcome.
